DOORS OPEN AGAIN: Brisk Yeshiva Reportedly Preparing to Accept 300–400 Bochurim for Winter Zman After Several Zmanim Without New Admissions
The renowned Brisk Yeshiva in Yerushalayim, headed by Rav Avrohom Yehoshua Soloveitchik, is reportedly preparing to accept approximately 300 to 400 bochurim for the upcoming winter zman, marking a significant reopening of admissions after several zmanim during which the yeshiva did not take in new talmidim.
According to sources, the decision comes amid changes in the yeshiva’s student body, with a substantial number of existing bochurim having departed or preparing to leave for other yeshivos, including Bais Medrash Govoha in Lakewood.
The anticipated admissions would represent a major development for Brisk, which has long been regarded as one of the most sought-after destinations for advanced American yeshiva bochurim spending their years of learning in Eretz Yisroel.
Under the leadership of Rav Avrohom Yehoshua Soloveitchik, a son of Rav Berel Soloveitchik and grandson of the Brisker Rov, the yeshiva has maintained its distinctive approach to learning, with particular emphasis on the rigorous analytical method associated with the Brisker tradition.
Admission to the yeshiva has historically been highly competitive, with demand frequently exceeding the number of places available. Its reputation has made acceptance into Brisk an important milestone for many American bochurim seeking to continue their learning in Yerushalayim.
The yeshiva has experienced periods of restricted admissions in the past. A historical account published more than two decades ago described a previous year in which Rav Avrohom Yehoshua declined to accept new students because of overcrowding, before eventually admitting approximately 200 American bochurim following appeals from American roshei yeshiva.
The latest reported reopening, however, would involve a considerably larger incoming group, with estimates placing the expected number of new students between 300 and 400.
