Savers Thrift Store to Open in Former King Kullen Space in Hewlett Next Year

Oct 9, 2026·1 min read

Savers, the national thrift-store chain continuing to expand across Long Island, is preparing to open a new location in Hewlett next year, taking over the former King Kullen supermarket space at the local shopping center on Peninsula.

The planned store will mark another addition to Savers’ growing Long Island footprint, which recently reached eight locations. The company has also leased the former Chase Bank building on the same property, although its plans for that separate space have not yet been finalized publicly.

The former bank building is a freestanding structure with a drive-through, offering the company several potential uses, including a possible donation drop-off location for customers bringing in clothing and other goods.

The company has not yet disclosed its specific plans for the building, and it remains unclear whether it will serve as an extension of the thrift store or fulfill another purpose.

The planned Hewlett opening adds to the chain’s presence on Long Island as shoppers increasingly encounter thrift stores as an alternative to traditional retail, offering secondhand clothing, household items and other donated merchandise.
