Mamdani Launches New Mental Health Website Connecting New Yorkers With More Than 600 Providers
NEW YORK — Mayor Zohran Mamdani and the New York City Health Department launched a new website Thursday to help residents find mental health and substance use services, with listings from more than 600 providers across the city.
The launch of NYC Mental Health Connect comes ahead of World Mental Health Day on Saturday, Oct. 10. The website, funded through the New York State Office of Mental Health, allows users to complete a brief questionnaire to identify services that match their needs, including appointment availability, insurance coverage, languages spoken and age groups served.
“Finding an accessible, affordable mental health provider should be simple, but for too many, the difficulty of finding care can prevent them from seeking the help they need,” Mamdani said. He said the new resource would help residents find local and virtual services while removing barriers to treatment.
The website includes information on outpatient clinics for adults, young people and families, rehabilitation services, peer support, employment and education assistance, care coordination, crisis services and programs for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
It also connects users with social services related to housing, food security and legal assistance.
Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services Helen Arteaga said the website would make it easier for residents to locate care in their communities or access services online.
Health Commissioner Alister F. Martin said many residents do not seek mental health support because they do not know where to turn.
The need is significant, according to a 2024 city report on mental health. About 24% of surveyed New York City teenagers said they needed or wanted mental health care but did not know where to find it. Nearly half of adults who reported struggling to function because of their mental health said they had an unmet need for treatment.
More than 40% of those adults cited not knowing whom to contact or where to go as a barrier to care.
The state Office of Mental Health contributed $5 million in one-time funding to develop and launch the website. The city will maintain the platform and update its listings to reflect providers accepting referrals.
State Mental Health Commissioner Ann Sullivan said the resource would help residents navigate the city’s range of behavioral health services and identify options suited to their needs.
New Yorkers experiencing a mental health crisis can also call or text 988 for free, confidential support around the clock.
Residents can access the new service at mentalhealthconnect.nyc.gov.
