Israeli Passenger Reveals Troubling New Details of flydubai Hijacking Attempt

Oct 11, 2026·3 min read

A passenger on flydubai Flight 1073, the flight that was nearly hijacked and was diverted just before hitting the ground by Israeli passengers before being taken over by pilots who had been on the flight, said in an interview with The Jerusalem Post that he still had questions.

Asaf Rajuan, who had been returning from a family vacation in Thailand, said he saw a woman run down the aisle, where he was seated in 7D, shouting that someone had a knife, then saw his family flung into the air. Thinking they were about to die, he raced toward the front of the aircraft, where he described the co-pilot, Hamam al-Hammami, emerging from the cockpit with a small head wound and covered in blood, some of which was not his own.

In allegations that remain unsubstantiated, Rajuan accused two of the flight attendants of aiding the hijacker. He said that one of them approached Hammami after he had been restrained and began to untie him but stopped after passengers confronted the attendant.

Another suspicious act he described was an attendant approaching the captain while he was receiving medical treatment with a tablet. In this case, too, passengers stopped the attendant because it made no sense to administer oral medication to someone in that condition.

Rajuan said that there were repeated confrontations between the attendants and passengers as he described their physical strength and fierce determination to prevent anyone from filming the incident as it unfolded.

Finally, Rajuan had questions about the pilots on board the flight who took control and flew the plane to Saudi Arabia without communicating with the passengers. The former flydubai passenger said that the pilots had to be cajoled and hustled to the cockpit to take over.

“I had to shake them to get them to move to the front and take control of the plane,” Tal, another passenger on the flight, said.

We know the names of the co-pilot, the captain, and all the Israelis involved in the rescue effort, but, as he pointed out, we have not heard from the pilots, nor have they been identified. Rajuan would like to hear their firsthand accounts and the reason for their initial hesitation.

Rajuan said that in such an atmosphere, he and other passengers became paranoid, suspecting everyone and trusting no one, although he admitted to N12 News, “I have no proof.”

“I hope that Israel will investigate it as it should be,” he said. “Because it’s something that needs answers.”
