Israeli Powerhouse Raz Hershko STRIKES BRONZE at World Championships
Israeli judoka Raz Hershko won the bronze medal in the open-weight category (over 78 kg) at the Judo World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan, Saturday.
Hershko began her campaign with smashing victories, winning an ippon victory (the highest score in judo, which immediately and decisively ends the bout) over Ling Fang Chang from Taiwan, then won a match against Estonia’s Emma-Melis Aktas in the round of 16, advancing to the final four, where she defeated Brazil’s Beatriz Souza. After a good run with a more-than respectable showing, she lost to South Korea’s Lee Hyeon-ji in the semifinals, dropping into the third-place match.
The judo athlete won the bronze medal by defeating Helena Vuković of Croatia with an ippon in golden score, which in judo means there is no time limit; however, Hershko bagged the victory in just four minutes.

Israeli officials congratulated Hershko.
“Congratulations to Raz Hershko on winning the bronze medal at the World Judo Championships!” Israel’s ambassador to the U.N. Danny Danon posted on X. “Raz continues to prove time and again that she is one of Israel’s greatest athletes and brings us honor and pride in the world.”
“Proud of you!” he added.
Minister of Culture and Sports Miki Zohar posted, “Israeli Pride! Congratulations to Raz Hershko on winning the bronze medal at the Judo World Championships! You continue to prove that you’re one of the best in the world and to bring great honor to the State of Israel. Proud of you!”
At the European Judo Championships in April, Hershko took home the gold, winning her second gold medal at the European Judo Championships in Tbilisi, Georgia, and winning a medal for the fifth time overall.
