Netanyahu demands criminal probe into “NAZA” film, calls for prosecution of those involved
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday sent a letter to IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, Shin Bet Director David Zini, and Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara, demanding an urgent criminal investigation into those who took part in the documentary “NAZA.”
“The film embodies a false, misleading and tendentious libel, which spreads slander against the State of Israel and the Israel Defense Forces around the world and severely harms Israel’s standing in the world,” Netanyahu wrote.
He added that there is concern those involved “committed serious criminal offenses of exposing top-secret information and created a breach in the information security of a highly sensitive intelligence unit.”
Netanyahu instructed the three officials to urgently identify everyone involved in the film and those appearing in it, and to open a criminal investigation into information security offenses, criminal defamation, and harm to the state’s diplomatic and security interests.
Background: “NAZA” is a one-sided documentary against the IDF’s Gaza operations, directed by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor and produced with The Guardian. It features accounts from 24 soldiers said to have served in Unit 8200. Zamir previously ordered a review of possible legal action and a probe into the suspected leak of classified material, calling the film’s claims “blood libels.”
