Netanyahu Holds Multiple Conversations With Trump Amid Iran Tensions; Source Says President Decides Independently
JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has held several conversations with President Donald Trump since their call following the FlyDubai incident, including during the past week, an Israeli source told i24NEWS. Israel is not commenting on the content of the talks.
Netanyahu is also holding a restricted security consultation this evening.
Amid tensions with Iran and questions over whether Trump will resume military action against Tehran, the source said the U.S. president makes his decisions independently. He will decide when he is ready and retains the authority to change course, the source said. Officials remain in constant contact, with no daylight between the two sides on shared objectives, including the central goal of ensuring Iran does not become a nuclear power. The Americans also share the objective of regime change, according to the source.
The source added that Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas share the aim of bringing down Netanyahu’s government and would view that outcome as a success. All three are seeking to disrupt Israel’s elections, an issue being discussed openly with American counterparts. Israel is scheduled to hold Knesset elections on Oct. 27.
Separately, the source said Netanyahu’s public response to the recent Houthi attack was unusual given the severity of the incident. On Sunday, Netanyahu condemned a missile strike on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport that killed at least 12 people and wounded more than 300, describing it as a horrific terrorist attack and extending condolences on behalf of the Israeli people.
“They are suffering from what we are suffering, even though they have not recognized our suffering,” the source said of the Saudis. “We have a common enemy, and everyone should see it as such.”
