Polish Police Arrest Suspect in Alleged Plot to Attack Prime Minister Donald Tusk Amid Fears of Russian Destabilization Campaign

Oct 12, 2026·2 min read

WARSAW, Poland — Polish authorities have arrested a man suspected of threatening and preparing an attack against Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński announced Sunday. Officials have not disclosed the suspect’s identity or provided details about the alleged plan.

The arrest comes as Poland faces growing security concerns, fueled by several recent school attacks and warnings about potential Russian hybrid operations intended to undermine Western backing for Ukraine.

“The man who threatened an attack was detained,” Tusk wrote on X. “Thanks to the police for fast and decisive action.”

Earlier Sunday, Polish police disclosed that security officials had received intelligence about a possible plot targeting both Tusk and Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.

“We take this matter extremely seriously,” said Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesperson for the minister responsible for overseeing Poland’s intelligence services. He added that authorities believed there was a “high probability” the threats would be carried out.

Dobrzyński made the remarks following an emergency meeting attended by security officials, police and Interior Ministry representatives. According to him, the initial warning was received by the state protection service, which subsequently notified the police.

Although officials have withheld further information about the suspected plot, Dobrzyński said intelligence agencies have been confronting a growing volume of threats each month.

Government spokesperson Adam Szłapka said Tusk was informed of the threat early Sunday morning. While threats against public officials are not unprecedented, Szłapka described this particular case as “exceptionally concerning.”

The arrest also comes against the backdrop of a series of violent incidents at schools in the central Polish province of Mazovia. Three attacks occurred over four days this week, leaving one person dead and numerous others injured, including children.

Polish officials have separately warned of the possibility of escalating Russian efforts to destabilize NATO’s eastern members. In September, Tusk said Moscow was preparing to intensify hybrid operations against countries supporting Ukraine.

He warned that Russia could target European countries, including Poland, with drones or rockets in an effort to weaken Western assistance to Kyiv as it continues fighting Russia’s invasion. Moscow has denied planning such attacks.

The latest arrest underscores Poland’s concerns about threats against senior government officials as the country continues to monitor potential security risks linked to the war in Ukraine and tensions with Russia.
