📸 Lakewood Completes Another Round of Infrastructure Improvements

Oct 12, 2026·2 min read

The Lakewood Township has completed another round of roadway and infrastructure improvements, taking advantage of reduced traffic during the Jewish holiday season to minimize disruptions for both residents and motorists. Throughout September and early October, crews worked efficiently to complete several major projects, expanding on the major infrastructure projects that were completed over the summer.

The latest roadwork follows extensive underground infrastructure improvements by New Jersey American Water (NJAW) and drainage improvements by the Township. Among the projects are 2nd Street, which is now repaved and restriped from North Lake Drive to Park Avenue. Based on recommendations from the Lakewood Police Department and Township Engineers, the striping was reconfigured to add nine parking spots to the historic commercial district.

Additionally, Monmouth Avenue was repaved and restriped from 1st Street to 2nd Street. In other areas of Lakewood, sections of Gudz Road in the New Central Avenue area, and sections of Claire Drive and Princewood Avenue and surrounding streets in the Hearthstone area, were also repaved and restriped following underground improvements.

Additional traffic safety improvements were completed at the intersection of Claire Drive and Princewood Avenue. The improvements include stop signs with flashing lights, “Stop Ahead” signs, stop bars, and a newly striped crosswalk to improve visibility and reinforce safer driving.

Even as we approach winter season, Lakewood continues its infrastructure improvement efforts in full gear, with several projects in progress or set to begin work in the coming months.

“Thanks to the great planning and teamwork of Township Engineers, Department of Public Works, Police Department, subcontractors, and other officials, Lakewood residents and motorists now enjoy enhanced infrastructure in additional sections of town,” says Committeeman Meir Lichtenstein. “Upgrading our infrastructure and improving public safety remain top priorities for the Township, and we continue working together towards completing other important projects that are currently in the pipeline.”
