Elected officials, community leaders, and members of the Monsey Fire Department gathered this morning for the grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony of the new Hugh (Chaim) Jacobson Fire Training Center at 6 Altman Court in Spring Valley, honoring the legacy of the department’s beloved late chief.

The new training facility was dedicated in memory of Chief Hugh (Chaim) Jacobson, who devoted nearly three decades of his life to the Monsey Fire Department before his petira in July at the age of 46, following a lengthy illness.

Jacobson joined the department approximately 28 years ago, following in the footsteps of his father, who was also a longtime firefighter. Throughout his years of dedicated volunteer service, he rose through the ranks, serving as Lieutenant, Captain, and eventually Chief of Department from 2022 to 2024. He later continued serving as First Assistant Chief, remaining actively involved in the department until his passing.

Known for his dedication, leadership, and commitment to firefighter safety, Jacobson played an important role in strengthening the department’s training, improving emergency response capabilities, and preparing firefighters to serve Monsey’s growing community. His vision for a stronger, better-equipped fire department remains an important part of his legacy.

Yossi Gestetner, among other speakers at this morning’s ceremony, spoke about Chief Jacobson’s legacy, his years of dedication to the department, and his vision for strengthening its capabilities and preparing future generations of firefighters.

The ceremony also included special congressional recognition from Congressman Mike Lawler, who issued a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition honoring the opening of the new training center in memory of Chief Jacobson and recognizing the department’s continued commitment to public safety.

The event included the ceremonial ribbon cutting, officially marking the opening of the new facility and celebrating another milestone for the Monsey Fire Department.

The Hugh (Chaim) Jacobson Fire Training Center will serve as a lasting tribute to a chief who dedicated much of his life to protecting the community, ensuring that his legacy of service, training, and preparedness continues to inspire firefighters for generations to come.
