Lakewood Completes Major Road Improvements, Adds Parking Spaces and Enhances Traffic Safety

Oct 12, 2026·2 min read

Lakewood Township has completed another round of roadway and infrastructure improvements, including newly paved streets, additional parking spaces, and upgraded traffic safety measures throughout several neighborhoods.

Taking advantage of reduced traffic during the Sukkos season, crews completed multiple projects throughout September and early October, building on extensive infrastructure improvements carried out over the summer.

The latest work follows underground infrastructure upgrades by New Jersey American Water and drainage improvements completed by the Township.

Among the completed projects is 2nd Street, which has been repaved and restriped between North Lake Drive and Park Avenue. Following recommendations from the Lakewood Police Department and Township engineers, the roadway was reconfigured to create nine additional parking spaces in the historic commercial district.

Monmouth Avenue was also repaved and restriped between 1st Street and 2nd Street. Additional resurfacing work was completed along sections of Gudz Road near New Central Avenue, as well as Claire Drive, Princewood Avenue, and surrounding streets in the Hearthstone neighborhood.

Traffic safety improvements were also installed at the intersection of Claire Drive and Princewood Avenue, including flashing stop signs, new “Stop Ahead” signs, pavement stop bars, and a newly marked crosswalk designed to improve visibility and pedestrian safety.

Township officials say additional infrastructure projects are already underway or scheduled to begin in the coming months, with improvement efforts continuing as winter approaches.

“Thanks to the great planning and teamwork of Township Engineers, Department of Public Works, Police Department, subcontractors, and other officials, Lakewood residents and motorists now enjoy enhanced infrastructure in additional sections of town,” said Committeeman Meir Lichtenstein.

“Upgrading our infrastructure and improving public safety remain top priorities for the Township, and we continue working together towards completing other important projects that are currently in the pipeline,” Lichtenstein added.
