President Herzog Pushes Unity Government: Netanyahu and Eisenkot at the Helm

Oct 12, 2026·1 min read

With polls showing a dead heat in the upcoming election and neither bloc on track for a decisive win, Israeli President Isaac Herzog is working to form a unity government between Benjamin Netanyahu and Gadi Eisenkot once the votes are counted.

In an interview today, Herzog said he will do everything in his power to prevent repeat elections, recalling 2019, when Israel was dragged through three rounds of voting before a winner emerged.

After the election, Herzog plans to push for a joint government between Netanyahu’s Likud and Eisenkot’s Yashar! party, built on a rotation model in which the two would take turns serving as prime minister.
