Can Hatzalah Find Your House?

Picture this: An emergency happens in Crown Heights, and you call Hatzalah. Within minutes, the dispatcher tone sounds, and Hatzalah members jump into their cars, racing toward your block.

They turn onto your street, scanning house after house… and then everything slows down.

Why? Because your house number is hidden behind overgrown branches, blends into the brick, or completely disappears the moment the sun goes down.

Go out to the street right now and look at your home. Can you clearly see your address? Check it during the day, and check it again tonight. If you can’t read it easily from the road… day or night… Hatzalah can’t either.

In an emergency, seconds count. Precious time spent by members driving slowly up and down a block searching for hidden numbers is time that could be spent saving a life.

Visible 24 Hours a Day, 7 Days a Week

A house number that seems clear enough at noon often becomes completely invisible after dark. Sunlight can obscure numbers behind shadows, and nighttime turns unlit numbers into ghost figures.

Here are three key ways to ensure your address stays visible around the clock:

1. Test Both Day and Night: Walk out to the curb in bright daylight, then step outside again after dark. If you can’t spot your numbers immediately from a driver’s perspective at both times, responders won’t either.

2. Clear the Line of Sight: Trim back branches, vines, and bushes that block the view from either direction along the street.

3. Ensure High Contrast and Illumination: High contrast numbers work best for daytime visibility, while reflective or back lit designs ensure your home stands out in pitch black conditions.

A solar powered option like this illuminated address plaque provides clear visibility during the day and automatically lights up at night, keeping your address bright 24/7 without needing extra electrical wiring.

Take a moment today… and again tonight… to look at your house. Make sure that when help is on the way, they can find you instantly.
