NYPD, Assisted by Shomrim, Arrest Suspect in Serial Bicycle Thefts in Williamsburg

Yisroel R.

A suspected serial bicycle thief responsible for stealing thousands of dollars worth of bicycles across Williamsburg was arrested yesterday by the NYPD with the assistance of Shomrim, following a series of thefts that caused significant losses to local residents.

The suspect, was well known in the area and to Shomrim, and allegedly had multiple outstanding arrest warrants and is believed to be responsible for towering sums of bicycle thefts totaling between $15,000 and $20,000.

Over this past weekend alone, the perpetrator allegedly stole two expensive bicycles, including one valued at approximately $1,500 and another worth several thousand dollars. The suspect arrived to Williamsburg, using a chain cutter to break through bicycle locks and steal the children’s expensive bikes.

The suspect was finally apprehended yesterday near the intersection of Marcy Avenue and Lynch Street after members of Shomrim patrolling the neighborhood observed him attempting to steal bicycles and taking delivered packages from outside of homes. The members followed the suspect closely and alerted the NYPD, which took him into custody, bringing the long searched for suspect under arrest.

The arrest comes as great news to Williamsburg residents who have been dealing with repeated bicycle thefts in the neighborhood, giving the children safety and comfort to utilize the final few weeks of the bicycle season.
