New York Man Charged With Threatening FBI Agents After Antisemitic Calls to Lakewood Jewish Charity

NEW YORK (VINnews) – A 33-year-old Jefferson County man was charged last week with threatening federal law enforcement officers after FBI agents attempted to question him about alleged antisemitic threats made to a Jewish charity.

Dylan Daniell, of La Fargeville, New York, was arraigned Friday in federal court in Syracuse on a criminal complaint charging him with threatening a federal officer. He was ordered held in custody pending a detention hearing scheduled for Oct. 15.

According to the complaint, a Jewish nonprofit received several calls in May in which the caller threatened violence against Jews, including saying he wanted to put them “in a gas chamber and kill them.”

The FBI identified Daniell as the likely user of the phone number used to make the calls, prosecutors said.

On Oct. 7, two FBI agents went to Daniell’s residence to question him about the calls. After identifying themselves, the agents were allegedly threatened by Daniell, who said, among other things, “only good cop is a dead cop” and warned them to leave before he pulled something out on them.

About four hours later, one of the agents received a text message from Daniell’s phone number warning, “You ever come to my house again you will not like it. That’s not a threat that’s a promise,” according to the complaint.

FBI Albany Field Office Special Agent in Charge Craig Tremaroli said the allegations involved disturbing threats against a Jewish charity followed by threats against the agents investigating the case.

Daniell faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison if convicted, along with a potential fine of up to $250,000 and up to three years of supervised release.

The FBI is investigating with assistance from New York State Police. Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew J. McCrobie is prosecuting the case.

The allegations in the complaint have not been proven. Daniell is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
