Oct 14, 2026·1 min read

A 10-year-old boy from Beitar Illit has passed away from injuries he suffered Wednesday afternoon in an explosion during a garbage fire on HaRebbe MiNadvorna Street.

Magen David Adom received the call at 4:56 p.m. Paramedics found the boy unconscious with multi-system trauma and began treating him at the scene.

Moshe Fordsham, an Ichud Hatzalah ambulance driver who was nearby, said he heard the blast and found the boy unconscious with serious injuries. He performed CPR before the boy was taken to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in critical condition, where he later passed away.

Firefighters and volunteers from the Judea regional fire station extinguished the blaze. Fire crews said the explosion occurred while the trash was burning.

In an initial statement, police said a garbage bin caught fire for an unknown reason, and an unidentified object flew out and struck the boy. Police have opened an investigation into the circumstances.

Early reports suggested children had lit the fire and an aerosol can inside the bin exploded from the heat. Police have not confirmed those reports.
