NEW YOPRK (VINnews) – New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Wednesday welcomed Comptroller Mark Levine’s decision not to invest city funds in Israeli bonds, saying the city should not purchase bonds issued by any foreign government.
Asked by Jacob Kornbluh about a New York Times report on Levine’s decision, Mamdani said he supported the comptroller’s move.
“I welcome the comptroller’s decision,” Mamdani said. “It is something that I’ve said in the past, that I don’t believe that our city should purchase Israel bonds. We don’t purchase the bonds of any other sovereign nation. I don’t think that we should make an exception when it comes to Israel.”
“This is the decision that the comptroller is making, and it’s one that I support,” Mamdani added.
