Israel’s Election Officially Underway: Diplomats Abroad Cast First Ballots

Oct 14, 2026·1 min read

Voting for Israel’s next Knesset has officially begun, with the first polling station opening Wednesday evening at the Israeli Embassy in New Zealand.

Israel’s official emissaries serving overseas, along with their families, are the first to vote. More than 4,800 diplomats, state envoys and family members are eligible to cast ballots at 101 polling stations across 99 Israeli missions worldwide.

Voting abroad will wrap up on the U.S. West Coast, with the final polls closing at Israel’s missions in San Francisco and Los Angeles at 6:00 a.m. Friday, Israel time.

Under Israeli law, voting at overseas missions is held 12 days before election day in Israel and is limited to state employees posted abroad for work and their eligible family members. Israelis abroad for travel, study or private business cannot vote there.
