Lakewood Vaad Releases Election Endorsements, Backs Candidates From Both Parties Ahead of November Election
The Lakewood Vaad has released its official endorsements and voting recommendations for the upcoming November 3 general election, backing candidates from both political parties while addressing the significant challenges facing Lakewood’s growing community.
In a detailed letter to residents, the Vaad highlighted the ongoing school transportation crisis, rising property taxes, increasing traffic congestion, and financial pressures affecting families, schools, and the township.
The Vaad emphasized that its endorsements are based on candidates’ accessibility, responsiveness, cooperation, and willingness to assist the community rather than political party affiliation.
For the U.S. Senate, the Vaad endorsed Democratic Senator Cory Booker, praising his longstanding relationship with Lakewood’s community leadership and his office’s assistance on numerous issues.
For Congress, the Vaad endorsed Republican Congressman Chris Smith, recognizing his decades of support for the community, advocacy for religious freedom and family values, and assistance to residents.
For Ocean County Commissioner, the Vaad endorsed Republican Frank Sadeghi, citing his accessibility and commitment to addressing Lakewood’s growing needs.
For Lakewood Township Committee, the Vaad endorsed Republican Committeewoman Deborah Fuentes and Democratic Mayor Ray Coles, acknowledging their service during a challenging period for the township and their willingness to work with community representatives.
In the Fire Commissioner election, the Vaad endorsed incumbents Dovid Bender and Harrison Pfeffer.
For the Lakewood Board of Education, the Vaad endorsed incumbents Samuel Melnik and Harriet Goldberg, along with Abraham D. Reich, whose name must be entered as a write-in candidate.
The Vaad is also urging voters to vote NO on the School Board ballot question.
In its message, the Vaad acknowledged the substantial challenges facing Lakewood, including a township financial shortfall, reductions in state aid, extraordinary expenses from last winter’s severe weather, and additional difficulties resulting from state oversight of the school district.
The Vaad stressed that its support for elected officials does not mean agreement with every decision they make, but reflects relationships built on mutual respect, communication, and a shared commitment to helping residents.
Early voting will take place from October 24 through November 1 at the Lakewood Municipal Building, 231 Third Street. Hours are Monday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM and Sundays from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, with polls open from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM at voters’ assigned polling locations.
The Vaad concluded by calling for renewed cooperation, meaningful solutions, and continued advocacy to address the challenges facing Lakewood families and institutions.
