Village of Airmont awarded $4.2 million dollars for new ADA compliant sidewalks. Announced today by Governor Hochul.

The Village of Airmont is pleased to announce that it has been awarded $4.2 million to install new ADA-compliant sidewalks along Regina Road.

The funding is part of more than $97 million awarded by Governor Kathy Hochul to more than 30 communities across New York State. The awards are being provided through the Federal Highway Administration’s Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) and administered by the New York State Department of Transportation. The program supports projects that improve pedestrian safety, accessibility, and alternative modes of transportation.

Village of Airmont Mayor Nathan Bubel said, “I thank Governor Hochul for this important investment in Airmont and for her commitment to improving pedestrian safety throughout New York State. The installation of ADA-compliant sidewalks along Regina Road will make it easier and safer for residents to travel through our community while improving accessibility for individuals of all ages and abilities.

“Infrastructure improvements like these are essential to creating safer neighborhoods and ensuring that residents have reliable, accessible ways to get where they need to go. We appreciate the State’s support in helping Airmont make these improvements a reality.”

Deputy Mayor Moses and Trustees Zorger, Friedman, and Toole worked diligently to advance the project and advocate for the needs of Airmont residents. As a result of their efforts, the Village submitted a successful application and received the award.

During Governor Hochul’s recent visit to Rockland County, Village officials had the opportunity to meet with her and discuss Airmont’s infrastructure needs. According to Trustee Zorger, the Governor expressed her commitment to doing everything possible to support the Village.

The Governor has now followed through on that commitment.

On behalf of the Village of Airmont and its residents, the Village extends its sincere appreciation to Governor Kathy Hochul, the New York State Department of Transportation, and everyone who helped make this $4.2 million investment possible.

The funding will help make Regina Road—and the Village of Airmont—a safer and more accessible community for residents, children, seniors, and families for years to come.
