Jewish Voters in New York Shift Sharply Away From Democrats, Poll Data Shows
NEW YORK (VINnews) — Democratic support among Jewish voters in New York has dropped sharply, according to Siena College polling averages discussed Wednesday by CNN data analyst Harry Enten.
In the U.S. House generic ballot among Jewish voters, Democrats held a 40-point advantage in 2018 and a 49-point lead in 2022. That margin has narrowed to 13 points in 2026 — a 36-point shift toward Republicans, Enten said.
“Their lead is absolutely tumbled into the Hudson River among Jewish voters,” Enten said. “Yes, they are still ahead, but we are talking about historically strong numbers for Republicans among Jewish voters.”
A comparable erosion appears in the governor’s race. Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul’s lead among Jewish voters has fallen from 51 points in 2022 to roughly 13 points, according to the data Enten reviewed.
Observers have tied the movement in part to the growing influence of the Democratic Socialists of America in New York politics and to Mayor Zohran Mamdani. Enten noted Mamdani’s net favorability among Jewish voters stands at minus 23 — substantially lower than his standing with the broader New York electorate. Earlier Siena polling has also shown majority unfavorable views of both Mamdani and the DSA among Jewish respondents, alongside concerns linked to the aftermath of the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attacks and positions on Israel.
Conservative commentator Clay Travis highlighted the CNN segment on X, writing that Jewish voters in New York are abandoning Democrats in record numbers.
New York has the largest Jewish population of any U.S. state. Pew Research Center data indicate about 6% of New York adults identify as Jewish, compared with roughly 2% nationwide.
