Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles Responds to Your ‘Ask The Mayor’ Questions: Hillside Light, 7th Street Closure
The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].
Question:
Hi, thanks for all that you do.
Any idea or update on when the light at Hillside and New Central will go live? Getting out of Westgate is a nightmare! The light is put up already.
Thanks in advance.
Response from Mayor Coles:
I’ll reach out to the county. They always do this over a period of time to get folks used to the light. They keep it covered for a while, then they will flash it. The concern is people who have driven over a road for long periods of time may not even notice it at first and the result could be devastating. It’s frustrating but I promise the end is in sight
Question:
I am writing to express my concerns regarding the closure of 7th Street between New York Avenue and Nowlan Avenue today around 12:00 PM.
This closure resulted in severe traffic congestion, forcing all cars and buses to detour down Ridge Avenue, which is extremely narrow and not equipped to handle that volume of traffic during peak hours.
I would like to request clarification on why this road closure was scheduled at noon on a Friday, during peak bus routes. If this was due to an emergency, please provide details on the nature of the situation and why the work could not be delayed until after 2:00 PM when school bus routes are completed.
Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. I look forward to your response.
Sincerely,
Response from Mayor Coles:
I spoke with Traffic and Safety. It was an emergency job, not scheduled work. Response is below
Yes, spoke with the officer. It was a JCP&L emergency job for a leaning pole across East 7th St. The road was closed at 10 AM and opened by 12:30 PM.
