BACK FROM THE DEAD? Funeral in Yerushalayim Interrupted After Family Members Believe Niftar Is Moving
An extraordinary scene unfolded at the Shamgar Funeral Home in Yerushalayim when relatives preparing to bury a family member suddenly became convinced that the niftar was showing signs of life, prompting an emergency response from Magen David Adom.
The incident occurred during funeral proceedings after members of the family reportedly noticed what appeared to be movement from the deceased. Alarmed by the possibility that the man might still be alive, they immediately contacted emergency medical personnel and requested an urgent examination.
According to journalist Moshe Weisberg, Magen David Adom dispatched a mobile intensive care unit to the funeral home to investigate the family’s concerns and establish whether the man was indeed deceased.
The arrival of the emergency medical team brought the funeral proceedings to a temporary halt as paramedics examined the niftar to determine whether there was any indication of life.
Although the relatives maintained that they had observed movement, the medical personnel found no signs of life and confirmed that the man had indeed passed away.
Additional reporting identified the niftar as a 60-year-old man and indicated that the concern arose during the hespedim, when a relative believed he had moved and was breathing beneath the burial shrouds. The family requested that the proceedings be stopped until his condition could be checked again.
Following the medical examination, the team reconfirmed that the man had no pulse. The levayah was subsequently allowed to continue, and the niftar was brought to kevurah.
What began as a moment of extraordinary hope for the grieving relatives ultimately ended with confirmation of the original determination of death.
