Did Ilhan Omar Run Away? Congresswoman Not Seen Publicly as Husband Avoids Question About Her Whereabouts
WASHINGTON | FEDERAL INVESTIGATION | OCTOBER 15, 2026
WASHINGTON — Rep. Ilhan Omar has not been seen publicly since federal agents searched her Washington residence Monday as part of an immigration-fraud investigation, fueling questions about her whereabouts after her husband declined to directly answer a reporter asking whether the Minnesota Democrat had left the United States.
Omar’s husband, political consultant Tim Mynett, was approached Wednesday outside the couple’s Washington rental home by a Fox News Digital reporter who asked whether rumors that the congresswoman had left the country were true.
Rather than confirm or deny the report, Mynett complained that journalists were disturbing the neighborhood.
His response left the central question unanswered: Where is the congresswoman, and has she remained in the United States since federal authorities searched her home?
There is no independently verified evidence that Omar has fled the country, and her absence from public view does not establish that she has left the United States.
Federal Search Intensifies Scrutiny
Agents with Homeland Security Investigations executed a court-authorized search warrant at Omar’s Washington residence on October 12, according to the Justice Department.
The search is part of an ongoing investigation into potential irregularities in immigration documentation associated with Omar’s family.
Investigators are reportedly examining records submitted by her late father when the family immigrated to the United States from Somalia, including questions surrounding Omar’s reported date of birth and the circumstances under which she acquired American citizenship.
Federal authorities reportedly seized Omar’s passport, cellphone and other materials during the search. More than a dozen grand-jury subpoenas have also been issued, including subpoenas involving relatives of the congresswoman.
The Justice Department has not publicly announced criminal charges against Omar.
Husband Seen at Residence, Omar Remains Out of Public View
While Omar has not appeared publicly since Monday’s search, Mynett has been photographed outside their residence on multiple occasions.
Fox News reported that he was seen Wednesday walking the family’s dog, taking out the trash and accompanying a member of Omar’s staff.
A congressional staffer was also seen entering the residence with food.
When questioned about the investigation earlier in the week, Mynett said he had no concerns about what federal investigators would uncover.
But Wednesday’s questioning focused on Omar’s whereabouts rather than the underlying allegations.
His refusal to directly address whether she had left the country has added to speculation, although no travel records, official statements or other independently verified information have established that she departed the United States.
Questions Over Citizenship Records
Omar’s citizenship history is a central focus of the investigation.
She arrived in the United States as a refugee from Somalia and obtained citizenship through her father’s naturalization in 2000.
Investigators are reportedly examining whether discrepancies in her documented birth year could have affected her eligibility to acquire citizenship as a minor.
The distinction is potentially significant under immigration law, although any attempt to revoke citizenship would face substantial legal requirements and judicial review.
Omar has denied wrongdoing. Her office has described the investigation as politically motivated, accusing the Trump administration of targeting one of the president’s most outspoken congressional critics.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the allegations have not been proven in court.
Separate Investigation Into Financial Disclosures
Omar is also facing scrutiny over congressional financial disclosures involving business interests associated with Mynett.
On Tuesday, U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro confirmed that her office was investigating the congresswoman’s financial reporting.
Earlier disclosures had listed ownership interests in a winery and venture-capital business with combined estimated values reaching $30 million.
Omar’s office subsequently amended the filings, explaining that the earlier numbers reflected overall business valuations rather than Mynett’s actual ownership interests and failed to account properly for liabilities.
Officials have indicated that the financial inquiry is separate from the immigration investigation that prompted the residential search.
Where Is Ilhan Omar?
The unanswered question surrounding Omar’s whereabouts has emerged just weeks before the November 3 midterm elections, in which she is seeking another term representing Minnesota’s Fifth Congressional District.
The federal search, seizure of personal records and expanding investigations have placed the congresswoman under intense scrutiny.
Yet the reported absence from public appearances and her husband’s unwillingness to answer a direct question are not, by themselves, evidence that she fled the United States or attempted to evade investigators.
As of Thursday evening, no verified public account had established that Omar had left the country.
For now, the federal investigation is confirmed, her husband’s exchange with reporters is documented, and the question of her whereabouts remains unanswered.
