A Lebanese military delegation will present Beirut’s demand for a halt to Israeli attacks during a three-way meeting scheduled for October 20 in Tampa, Florida, according to a statement posted by the Lebanese presidency on X.
Lebanon and Israel have engaged in several rounds of direct discussions in recent months as both sides seek to end fighting that reignited on March 2. The latest conflict began when Iran-backed Hezbollah launched attacks against Israel in support of Iran.
Under an agreement negotiated with US mediation, Lebanon committed to disarming Hezbollah, with the understanding that Israel would gradually withdraw its troops from Lebanese territory. However, Hezbollah has rejected disarmament while Israeli forces remain on Lebanese soil. Israel has continued carrying out strikes against what it describes as terrorist targets in southern Lebanon, arguing that they violate the terms of the agreement.
