Toms River Man Sentenced to Five Years in State Prison for Shooting at Bicyclist

Oct 19, 2026·1 min read

A 19-year-old Toms River man has been sentenced to five years in New Jersey State Prison for his involvement in a 2024 shooting in which multiple gunshots were fired at a bicyclist, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer announced.

Anthony Ventrice was sentenced on October 16 after previously pleading guilty to aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He must serve at least 85% of his five-year sentence before becoming eligible for parole.

The incident occurred on May 14, 2024, near Camino Medio and Camino Verde in Toms River. Authorities said Ventrice fired several shots toward a man riding a bicycle. A second suspect, Anthony Zigarelli, 22, of Manchester, then fired additional shots from a vehicle as the suspects drove past the victim.

The bicyclist was not hit and escaped without injuries.

Ventrice, who was a juvenile at the time, was arrested by Lakewood Police and later prosecuted as an adult.

Zigarelli was previously sentenced in September to six years in state prison for his role in the shooting.

The investigation involved the Toms River Police Department, Lakewood Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office.
