New Jersey Regulators Raise Concerns Over Electric Utilities’ Incomplete Reports on Power Grid Decisions
New Jersey utility regulators are demanding greater transparency from the state’s four major electric companies after determining that reports detailing their participation in regional power grid decisions were incomplete.
The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities said the companies failed to provide comprehensive records of their votes and adequate explanations for decisions involving regional electricity policies that could affect customer rates.
Among the utilities identified was Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L), which provides electricity to portions of Ocean County and other areas of New Jersey.
The reports were intended to provide regulators with greater insight into how utility companies represent the interests of New Jersey customers when participating in regional power grid decisions.
State officials say complete reporting is particularly important as residents and businesses continue facing concerns over rising electricity costs.
The Board of Public Utilities is seeking greater accountability to ensure that decisions made by electric utilities are transparent and reflect the interests of ratepayers.
