New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has called for the release of activists and other “rabbis” who were detained in Israel while participating in an olive-harvest activity alongside Palestinians.

Mamdani used the incident to criticize Israel, invoking the issues of occupation and genocide. His intervention has raised questions about the mayor’s focus on international affairs while leading one of the world’s largest cities, where residents continue to look to City Hall for action on local concerns. He has mega-fixed on everything that has to do with Israel, as usual.
