Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich on Wednesday offered Amcha Yisrael leader Ofer Winter a ministerial post in the Defense Ministry from his Religious Zionism party’s share, on condition that Winter withdraw from next Tuesday’s election.
“I will give up a ministerial position allocated to my party for you if you withdraw and do not endanger the right,” Smotrich said.
The offer comes amid mounting pressure from right-wing parties on Winter to exit the race over concerns that his run will waste right-wing votes if his party falls short of the electoral threshold. As Belaaz first reported, Netanyahu is seeking the help of Rav Dovid Abuhatzeira, the mekubal of Nahariya, to press Winter to quit the race.
Winter has said he has no intention of dropping out. His party has polled below the 3.25% electoral threshold in recent surveys.
