NEW YORK (VINnews) – A former NYPD detective accused of fatally shooting a Con Edison worker during a road-rage confrontation on the George Washington Bridge had been working as a chauffeur for a billionaire hedge fund executive, according to a report by the NY Post Thursday.
Victor Romero, 62, was reportedly driving a company-owned Range Rover while working for Dan Gold, chief executive of QVT Financial, an investment firm managing more than $2 billion in assets, the New York Post reported.
Romero is accused of shooting Koran Irvine, 46, a longtime Con Edison employee and father of two, during a confrontation on the bridge Tuesday evening. Investigators allege Romero shot Irvine before fleeing the scene.
Romero, a former Brooklyn narcotics detective who left the NYPD in 2001, was arrested Wednesday and charged with manslaughter. He was ordered held on $1 million bail.
QVT Financial acknowledged the reports involving Romero and said it was cooperating with authorities. The firm did not provide further public comment in the report.
Irvine, a Valley Cottage resident who had worked for Con Edison for about 20 years, is being mourned by his family and colleagues.
