El Al Flight LY27 Diverted to Paris After Crew Member Falls Ill; Passengers to Observe Shabbat at Airport Hotel
PARIS (VINnews) — An El Al flight from Tel Aviv to Newark was diverted to Paris on Friday after a crew member became ill and was no longer fit to continue the flight, airline and passenger accounts indicated.
Flight LY27, which departed Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport bound for Newark Liberty International Airport, landed in Paris so the affected crew member could receive medical attention. Multiple passengers were subsequently rebooked onto alternative flights operated by other airlines.
The remaining passengers are expected to stay at an airport hotel in Paris over Shabbat. A rabbi is scheduled to join the group at the hotel, where kosher food and a dedicated prayer room have been arranged.
A replacement flight is planned to depart Saturday night, according to updates shared with passengers.
El Al has not issued a detailed public statement on the diversion as of Friday morning. The airline routinely makes unscheduled landings for medical reasons involving crew or passengers.
