Ilhan Omar Hits Back At Trump, Challenges Vance Over His Name

Oct 23, 2026·2 min read

WASHINGTON — Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) hit back at President Donald Trump on Thursday, accusing him of promoting conspiracy theories and challenging him to focus on Vice President JD Vance’s name.

“The pedophile protection party’s president is laundering right-wing conspiracy theories through the most corrupt DOJ in American history. Whenever the news turns bad, this creep reaches for one name: mine,” Omar wrote on X.

“So let’s make it crystal clear. My name has always been Ilhan Omar. Maybe you should focus on what your VP’s real name is,” she added.

Omar’s remark appeared to reference Vance’s name changes. Born James Donald Bowman, he later used the surname Hamel before legally changing his name to James David Vance in 2013.

Her response followed Trump’s renewed attacks over allegations concerning her immigration history and identity. Omar has rejected accusations of wrongdoing and characterized the scrutiny as politically motivated.

The dispute has brought renewed attention to allegations surrounding Omar’s immigration records, which have circulated for years. Allegations, however, do not establish criminal wrongdoing.
