TEFILLOS FOR THE REBBE: Gerer Rebbe Scheduled to Undergo Dialysis Treatment Sunday at Hadassah Hospital
Concern has spread throughout the Gerer chassidus following reports that the Gerer Rebbe, Rav Yaakov Aryeh Alter, is scheduled to undergo medical treatment on Sunday, October 25, at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Yerushalayim. According to sources, the treatment involves dialysis, which the Rebbe is expected to undergo during the coming period.
The news has prompted calls for tefillos throughout the chassidus and the broader Torah community for the Rebbe’s complete refuah sheleimah.
On Motzoei Shabbos, four of the Rebbe’s sons traveled to the ohel of the Gerer Rebbes in Yerushalayim to daven for their father’s health ahead of Sunday’s scheduled treatment.
Those participating included Rav Avrohom Mordechai Alter, Rav Nechemia Alter, Rav Yisroel Menachem Alter, and Rav Dovid Alter.
The four gathered at the resting places of the Imrei Emes and the Pnei Menachem, where they recited the entire fourth book of Tehillim and offered special tefillos for the Rebbe’s recovery.
Another son, Rav Shlomo Tzvi Alter, was not present at the gathering, as he is currently overseas accompanying orphaned bochurim from the Gerer chassidus.
The Rebbe has undergone medical treatment on several occasions over the past year. In September 2025, he was hospitalized at Hadassah Har Hatzofim Hospital in Yerushalayim after developing pneumonia. He was subsequently released to his home, where he continued receiving medical care and recuperating.
Earlier this year, the Rebbe also underwent treatment relating to difficulties affecting his eyes and vision, including a medical procedure in May followed by a period of rest and recovery.
In June, the Rebbe returned to a medical facility in the Tel Aviv area for additional treatment connected to his eyesight.
The latest reports indicate that Sunday’s scheduled treatment concerns dialysis, a medical procedure used when the kidneys are unable to adequately filter waste products and excess fluid from the blood.
No further details have been publicly confirmed regarding the underlying medical condition, the anticipated duration of treatment, or whether the Rebbe will remain hospitalized afterward.
The public is asked to be mispallel for the refuah sheleimah of Rav Yaakov Aryeh ben Yuta Hena besoch she’ar cholei Yisroel.
