Trump says US could strike Iran as early as Sunday, or reach 'big, beautiful' deal

President Donald Trump said Saturday that the United States could launch another military strike against Iran as soon as Sunday, or instead reach what he called a “big, beautiful” agreement with Tehran, leaving two sharply different outcomes on the table in a standoff that has kept global energy markets on edge.
“We’re thinking about doing it, and maybe tomorrow,” Trump told reporters when asked how close Washington was to a decision. He framed the choice as Iran’s to make, saying the United States wins either way, and brushed off a question about timing: “Do you really think I’m going to tell you?”
The remarks came only days after Trump said on social media that he would not strike Iran again before the November 3 midterm elections, and they land as Tehran issues its own threats. Iranian officials have warned that any new attack would bring retaliation against energy and civilian targets across the region and a further escalation of the country’s nuclear program.
Iran sent conflicting signals of its own on Saturday. Tehran’s envoy to Pakistan said Iran had offered to reopen the Strait of Hormuz if the United States lifted its blockade of Iranian ports, but a source quoted by media affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards rejected any such offer within hours.
The economic stakes run through a narrow channel of water between Iran and Oman. Roughly a fifth of the world’s oil passes through the Strait of Hormuz, and traders have treated every exchange between Washington and Tehran as a live pricing event. A strike, or any disruption to shipping through the strait, would be expected to move energy prices as soon as Asian markets open Monday morning local time.
For now, both doors remain open: a deal Trump says could be reached quickly, or a renewed strike on Iran, possibly within hours.
