CNN: U.S. Forces Ready for Major Iran Strikes Within 96 Hours of Trump Order
U.S. forces in the Middle East are prepared to launch potentially major military operations against Iran within 96 hours of receiving an order from President Donald Trump, CNN reported Monday, citing two U.S. officials. Trump has not made a final decision on whether to authorize new major attacks.
According to CNN’s report, sufficient American forces are already deployed in the region to carry out the potential operation. The 96-hour timeframe describes military readiness after a presidential order, not a countdown to an approved attack.
The officials said a new campaign would likely go beyond limited strikes on Iranian radars, launchers and other assets that can be quickly rebuilt. U.S. Central Command and Pentagon leaders have been developing a broad target list that includes energy infrastructure, military sites and nuclear facilities, CNN reported.
Current and former U.S. officials familiar with the planning believe an order could come before the end of the year, most likely after the U.S. midterm elections. That remains their assessment, not an announced timetable. Officials cautioned that Trump has previously appeared to favor military action before backing away.
CNN also reported that Israel had been preparing for possible additional strikes and seeking American support. Senior U.S. officials, including Trump, told Israel to hold off, while signaling possible joint operations. Sources told the network that Israel was building up for potential joint action, likely after the American midterms.
Netanyahu’s office called CNN’s account that he had sought a joint attack before the elections and failed to secure Trump’s approval “fake news.”
The White House declined to comment. A senior Pentagon official told CNN: “The Department is a planning organization, and its job is to develop and execute military options ordered by the President.”
