EXCLUSIVE: Asked if He’d Trust Netanyahu’s Signature Again, Pindrus Tells Belaaz: “I Don’t Trust Any Papers”
In an interview with Belaaz, MK Yitzchok Pindrus of Degel HaTorah, who is third on the United Torah Judaism (UTJ) slate, said the party will not join any government without a solution for yeshiva bochurim and the Army.
Pindrus spoke in Bnei Brak on the eve of Tuesday’s Knesset elections. UTJ is headed by Yaakov Asher, with Agudas Yisrael chairman Yitzchok Goldknopf in the second spot and Pindrus third.
“We’re not joining any government without a solution for the issues,” Pindrus said. “I don’t believe that the leftists are going to make any kind of solution.” He added: “We’re going to only support a government that’s going to bring a solution.”
Asked whether he would trust Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he signed a paper again promising a solution in a few months, Pindrus answered: “No, I trust the solution. I don’t trust any papers.”
Asked what would make him happy with the result, Pindrus said: “We have to get the 320,000 Chareidim to vote.” On the number of seats, he said: “It could be eight seats, it could be nine seats, and it could be seven seats.” On what comes after the vote, he said a unity government or another round of elections are both possible.
Asked about the new Charedi parties, Pindrus said: “We believe the Chazon Ish set the pathway, Rav Aharon Kotler, Rav Shach, Rav Elyashiv, Rav Steinman, Rav Chaim, and we’re following in the same footsteps.”
Asked about a suggestion that the new parties “look like Reform,” he said: “I don’t give names. Names are what a father gives a boy at the bris. I could tell you what it is, okay? Chareidim go by Daas Torah. That’s what we do, and that’s what we’ll do.”
