[Video below.] Secretary of State Marco Rubio delivered an unusually brief speech at President Donald Trump’s campaign rally in Corpus Christi, Texas, speaking for just 11 seconds after Trump unexpectedly called him onto the stage.

“It’s an honor to work for the greatest country in the world, for the greatest president in the history of the United States of America. We love you, Texas. Thank you,” Rubio told the crowd before promptly concluding his remarks.

Rubio had accompanied Trump to two campaign events in Texas earlier that day. A State Department official explained to The Hill that Rubio was traveling in his capacity as national security adviser, allowing him to discuss important government matters with the president while they were on the road.

“He needs time with the president on all kinds of issues. The president will be on the go, so being on the plane with him gives him a chance to talk to him about these items,” the official told The Hill.

Rubio was not the only Republican official to make a remarkably short appearance at a Trump rally this week. During a campaign event in Mississippi on Monday, Trump invited Republican Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith onto the stage to address the audience.

“Is this not the best president in our lifetime?” Hyde-Smith exclaimed before quickly stepping away from the microphone.

Trump welcomed the senator’s brief appearance, explaining that he appreciates speakers who keep their comments short rather than delivering lengthy addresses during his campaign events.

“I love that. Sometimes they get up, and they talk for 10 minutes,” the president said.

Rubio’s appearance the following day was similarly concise, with the secretary of state offering a quick endorsement of Trump before handing the stage back to the president.
