Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned Monday that Russia was preparing a major attack on Ukraine’s energy and logistics infrastructure, saying Moscow could try to exploit the distraction of the U.S. midterm elections on Tuesday.
Zelensky said Ukraine had intelligence pointing to a new large-scale strike. Fox News reported his warning Monday evening, citing his nightly address and a post on X.
The warning is Zelensky’s assessment of Russian intentions, not confirmation that a new attack has begun or that Moscow has committed to a particular timetable. The intelligence underlying his comments was not detailed in the report.
Energy and supply routes in focus
Zelensky identified energy facilities and logistics as the main potential targets. He said Russia could calculate that international attention would shift to the American elections while Ukraine continued to face shortages of air-defense equipment, including Patriot missiles.
“We have intel that Russia is preparing a new massive attack on our country,” Zelensky said, according to Fox’s account. He added that energy and logistics were the primary targets.
The Ukrainian president framed the risk around Tuesday, November 3, when Americans vote in elections that will determine control of Congress. His concern was that an election-focused news cycle could draw attention away from Ukraine’s defenses and the consequences of further strikes.
Appeal for pressure on Moscow
Zelensky urged the United States and its allies to make clear that further attacks would carry economic costs for Russia. He called for pressure on Russian oil and gas income and for limits on Moscow’s ability to earn money through international business while the war continues.
“We must put pressure on Russia in such a way that it has no alternative but to end this war. America can do this,” he said in remarks quoted by Fox.
His appeal also put air-defense supplies at the center of the immediate debate. In a separate Sunday interview with Fox, Zelensky said Ukraine would be willing to suspend attacks on Russian oil refineries for a month if Washington supplied Patriot interceptors over the same period.
That was a conditional proposal, not an announced agreement. It does not establish that additional interceptors have been delivered or that either side has accepted a new pause in attacks.
For now, the development is a public warning from Ukraine’s president about the risk of a major strike during the U.S. election period. The scale, exact timing and targets of any future attack remain unconfirmed.
