After more than seven years away, Odell Beckham Jr. is officially a New York Giant again.
The Giants announced their initial 53-man roster on Sunday, and Beckham earned his spot after an impressive training camp and preseason. The 33-year-old wide receiver originally joined the Giants as the No. 12 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft and quickly became one of the most exciting players in the NFL. In his first five seasons with Big Blue, Beckham caught 390 passes for 5,476 yards and 44 touchdowns in 59 games, earning three Pro Bowl selections and the 2014 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award.
After stops with the Browns, Rams, Ravens and Dolphins, Beckham is now back where his NFL story began. He missed the 2025 season and entered Giants training camp without any guarantee that he would make the team. He had to earn his way back onto the roster, catching seven passes for 76 yards during the preseason.
Now, Beckham gets another opportunity to wear Giants blue, this time under new head coach John Harbaugh. His return represents one of the most intriguing comeback stories heading into the 2026 NFL season.
What does it mean to you to officially be back on the Giants and know that you are going to start the season as a Giant again?
It means a lot. This is where everything started for me, so to have the opportunity to come back and finish this part of my career here is really special.
When you first signed with the Giants again, did you allow yourself to think about what it would be like to actually make the team and put on that Giants uniform again?
Absolutely. You always have a vision in your head of what you want to accomplish, but I also knew I had to come in here and earn it. Nothing was guaranteed to me. I had to work every day and prove that I still belong.
What are you most excited about about playing in New York again?
The fans, the energy and the atmosphere. New York is different. I remember what it felt like playing here earlier in my career, and I’m excited to experience that again.
How emotional was it for you to come back to the place where your NFL career began?
It was definitely emotional. There are a lot of memories here and a lot of people who were part of my journey. Coming back brought back a lot of those feelings, but now I’m focused on creating new memories.
You had to compete for a roster spot this summer. Did that give you an extra level of motivation?
For sure. I’ve always had a competitive drive. Having to earn my spot made me work even harder. I wasn’t looking for anything to be handed to me.
Where does that drive come from? After everything you’ve accomplished, what keeps you hungry?
I just love football. I love competing. I love proving things to myself. I don’t think you ever lose that competitive fire if that’s who you are.
What did you learn about yourself during the time away from football?
You learn to appreciate things differently. Sometimes you don’t realize how much you love something until you aren’t doing it anymore. It gave me a different perspective and made me appreciate every opportunity.
How much does it mean to you to be doing this at 33 years old?
It means a lot. I’ve been through a lot in this league. I’ve had great moments, difficult moments, injuries and everything in between. To still have the opportunity to play the game I love is something I don’t take for granted.
You are returning to a Giants team with a completely different group of players than when you were here before. What has that been like?
It’s been great. There are a lot of young players who are hungry and talented. I’m trying to come in, do my job and help however I can.
Have any of your new teammates said anything to you about growing up watching you play for the Giants?
I’ve heard some stories. It’s definitely funny sometimes hearing guys talk about watching me when they were younger. But now we’re teammates, and we’re all focused on winning.
How excited are you about playing for coach John Harbaugh?
Very excited. He’s a proven coach who has won at the highest level. He’s demanding, he’s detailed and he expects a lot from his players. That’s the kind of environment you want to be around.
What has impressed you most about Coach Harbaugh since you arrived?
His attention to detail and the way he approaches the game. You can tell how much football means to him. He brings a lot of energy, and he expects everyone to be prepared.
You’ve had some incredible moments in a Giants uniform. Is there one memory that stands out above the rest?
There are so many. My first game, my first touchdown, the fans, the catches, the relationships I built here. It’s hard to pick just one.
When you walk into the Giants facility now, does it feel like you’re coming home?
In a lot of ways, yes. Obviously, things have changed, but there are still certain feelings that come back when you’re here. It’s a special place for me.
What would you say to the Giants fans who are excited to see you back?
I would say thank you. The support has always meant a lot to me. I’m excited to get back out there in front of them and give them everything I have.
What are your personal goals for this season?
To help the team win. That’s really what it’s about. Whatever my role is, I want to make an impact and help us get where we want to go.
Do you feel like you still have something to prove?
I think everybody in this league has something to prove. I’m not worried about proving anything to people outside of this building. I want to prove to myself that I can continue to play at a high level and help this team.
What is the biggest difference between the Odell Beckham Jr. who entered the Giants as a rookie in 2014 and the player returning now?
Experience. I’ve lived a lot since then. I’ve been through a lot, and I see the game and life differently now. I’m older, I’m more experienced and I appreciate the opportunity in a different way.
When you look at the Giants today, do you believe this team can surprise people this season?
I believe in the guys in this locker room. We have talent, we have a new coaching staff and everybody is working. We just have to put it together and take it one day at a time. Finally, what does the phrase “Odell Beckham Jr. is a Giant again” mean to you? It means I’m home. I’m grateful for the opportunity, and I’m ready to make the most of it.
