CIA Director John Ratcliffe floated the idea of a three-way meeting between President Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during his secret trip to Moscow earlier this week, Axios reports. Ratcliffe’s visit was also aimed at determining whether senior Russian intelligence officials could help push Putin back toward U.S.-brokered talks with Ukraine. He met with SVR chief Sergey Naryshkin and FSB director Alexander Bortnikov, with U.S. officials concluding that Bortnikov could potentially help restart diplomatic efforts. Zelensky was briefed Friday on Ratcliffe’s Moscow meetings.
