🌡️❄️ CANADA’S WINTER MAY ‘TAKE A HOLIDAY’ AS MONSTER EL NIÑO BUILDS A potentially record-breaking, “supercharged” El Niño is developing, and longtime Environment Canada climatologist David Phillips says Canadians could be in for a much milder winter dominated by Pacific air rather than bitter Arctic blasts. Phillips predicts a generally “soft, open and tame” winter, with less snow in many areas — potentially good news for heating bills, but not so great for skiers and snow lovers. The UN’s World Meteorological Organization says El Niño is now nearly certain to persist through February and could become one of the strongest ever recorded. And there may be a longer-term consequence: scientists say the enormous amount of heat associated with this El Niño could help make 2027 the hottest year ever recorded globally.
