❄️ Fast-moving snowstorm heading toward Toronto A major winter storm sweeping across Ontario has already shut down over 500 km of highways in the north and is now moving toward southern Ontario and the GTA. Environment Canada says the Wednesday morning commute could be messy, with 5–10 cm of snow expected overnight across Toronto and surrounding areas — and possibly more in some regions. Special weather statements are in effect for the GTA, Barrie and other parts of southern Ontario, while areas near Lake Huron may get additional snow squalls tomorrow. Drive carefully and allow extra time for the morning commute. -- 🗞️ JOIN THE TORONTO SCOOP, TORONTO'S FASTEST GROWING WHATSAPP GROUP & STATUS: https://chat.whatsapp.com/H2oH2yD6OhP34toRYH8G0t?mode=gi_t

12:14 AM🇨🇦 Petition launched to abolish Human Rights Tribunals in Canada A new petition by the Free Speech Union of Canada is calling on federal and provincial governments to abolish (or significantly reform) Canada’s human rights tribunals and commissions. Supporters of the petition argue that these tribunals are increasingly being used to limit free expression and punish controversial speech, pointing to recent high-profile cases as examples. Human rights tribunals were originally established to address discrimination in areas like employment, housing, and public services. Critics say they’ve overreached; defenders say they remain essential for protecting vulnerable groups. The petition is currently collecting signatures and aims to be presented to lawmakers once it reaches its target. 🔗 Read more or sign: https://fsucanada.ca/petition-to-abolish-human-rights-tribunals-in-canada/

🚨 Budget Bill Update: “Powers of a King” Clause Scaled Back MP Sandra Cobena says the Liberals have agreed to amend a controversial section of the federal Budget Implementation Act that critics dubbed the “Powers of a King” clause. What was the concern? The original provision would have allowed cabinet ministers to quickly change or bypass certain federal regulations — especially around emerging industries and financial innovation — without going through the usual full parliamentary process. Critics warned this could concentrate major decision-making power in the hands of a few ministers, with limited oversight or transparency. What’s changing now? According to Cobena, the adopted amendments add key safeguards: • Mandatory public consultation • Parliamentary oversight • Clear limits on ministerial powers • Greater transparency for Canadians She says the revised bill still allows Canada to encourage innovation and create “regulatory sandboxes” (controlled environments to test new technologies or financial models), but now with stronger democratic checks and balances. Cobena thanked Canadians who signed petitions and contacted her office, saying public pressure helped secure the changes. -- 🗞️ JOIN THE TORONTO SCOOP, TORONTO'S FASTEST GROWING WHATSAPP GROUP & STATUS: https://chat.whatsapp.com/H2oH2yD6OhP34toRYH8G0t?mode=gi_t
