🇨🇦 UPDATE: Third Arrest in U.S. Consulate Shooting Investigation Toronto Police have arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with the March shooting at the U.S. Consulate in Toronto. Sheldon Tracy-Stewart, 18, is charged with: ▪️ Firing a gun at the U.S. Consulate ▪️ Violent attack on the premises of an internationally protected person ▪️ Multiple firearms offences The arrest comes amid the same investigation that led officers to execute search warrants on Martha Eaton Way on Thursday, where Toronto Police Constable Marc Pinizzotto, 43, was fatally shot. Police say 19-year-old Nicholas Bennett has been charged with first-degree murder in the officer’s death. A second suspect, Zara Jabbi, 19, remains wanted in connection with the consulate shooting and is considered armed and dangerous. Toronto Police say more information on the investigation is expected in the coming days.

🇺🇸🇮🇷 U.S. and Iran Reportedly Near Formal Agreement According to Axios, the United States and Iran are expected to participate in a virtual signing ceremony on Sunday to formalize a 60-day extension of the ceasefire, reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and begin negotiations over Iran's nuclear program. President Trump stated that the agreement would reopen the vital shipping lane and launch a new phase of diplomacy, while warning that military action remains an option if the deal is not implemented. Pakistani officials have publicly indicated that preparations are underway for the electronic signing, with technical negotiations expected to follow next week. If finalized, the agreement could ease tensions across the region and help stabilize global energy markets. ⚠️ Notably, Iranian officials have not yet publicly confirmed all aspects of the reported agreement, and details remain subject to change.

🔍 Key Details of the U.S.-Iran Ceasefire Agreement Now that a deal has been announced, attention turns to what's actually in it: ▪️ The ceasefire is set to last 60 days while negotiations continue. ▪️ Iran is expected to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly 20% of the world's oil and LNG normally passes. ▪️ The U.S. says it will remove its naval blockade and discuss sanctions relief and access to frozen Iranian funds. ▪️ Nuclear talks will focus on Iran's uranium enrichment program and the fate of its stockpile of highly enriched uranium. ▪️ Any sanctions relief is expected to be tied to Iranian compliance with the agreement. ▪️ Fighting involving Hezbollah in Lebanon is also included in the ceasefire framework. ▪️ A formal signing ceremony is reportedly being planned for Friday in Switzerland. The biggest challenge remains the next 60 days: reaching a detailed nuclear agreement. Some analysts remain skeptical that the toughest issues can be resolved that quickly.

Faith, Not Fear: Some Notable Takeaways One of the evening's most memorable moments came at the outset, when community strategist Maureen Leshem challenged the speakers to avoid the platitudes and well-worn talking points that have dominated Jewish communal discourse in recent years, urging them instead to offer practical and original ideas. Among the suggestions that followed: • MP Melissa Lantsman encouraged attendees to deepen their connection to Yiddishkeit, noting that Jewish learning is something she makes time for every day. • MP Shuv Majumdar urged the audience to keep Shabbos, put down their phones, stop doomscrolling, and reconnect with family, friends, and community. • Former MP Kevin Vuong called on community members to reconsider financial support for academic institutions that have become breeding grounds for antisemitism and anti-Israel activism. Rather than focusing solely on the challenges facing Canadian Jewry, several speakers emphasized personal responsibility, Jewish identity, and concrete action as the path forward. -- 🗞️ JOIN THE TORONTO SCOOP, TORONTO'S FASTEST GROWING WHATSAPP GROUP & STATUS: https://chat.whatsapp.com/IZ1SDTXA9aY5z0w4lT0vyY

Canada Announces Another $100 Million in Palestinian Aid Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand has announced an additional $100 million in Canadian funding for humanitarian assistance in Gaza and the West Bank. According to the government, the money will be distributed through organizations including the United Nations, the Red Cross, the Red Crescent, and other aid agencies to support civilians affected by the ongoing conflict. The announcement has drawn criticism from some commentators and pro-Israel advocates, who argue that Canada has not provided sufficient assurances that aid entering Gaza cannot be diverted, taxed, or otherwise exploited by Hamas, which continues to control much of the territory. Critics have also questioned why additional funding is being committed without conditions such as the release of all hostages, the disarmament of Hamas, or reforms to Palestinian Authority programs that have been accused of rewarding individuals convicted of terrorism-related offences. Supporters of the aid package argue that humanitarian assistance is essential to help innocent civilians and should not be withheld because of the actions of Hamas. With this latest announcement, Canada has now committed more than $500 million in Palestinian assistance since the start of the war. -- 🗞️ JOIN THE TORONTO SCOOP, TORONTO'S FASTEST GROWING WHATSAPP GROUP & STATUS: https://chat.whatsapp.com/IZ1SDTXA9aY5z0w4lT0vyY

CONTROVERSIAL MONTREAL ANTI-ISRAEL MOTION WITHDRAWN A controversial motion scheduled to be debated at Montreal City Council on Monday night has been withdrawn following significant public opposition. The motion, introduced by members of Projet Montréal, would have called on the City of Montreal to: ▪️ Officially describe Israel as an "apartheid" state ▪️ Accuse Israel of committing "genocide" in Gaza ▪️ Express solidarity with Palestinians ▪️ Suspend Montreal's institutional ties with Israel until a series of political demands were met Federation CJA and CIJA strongly opposed the motion, arguing that it was divisive, imported a foreign conflict into municipal politics, and came at a time when Montreal's Jewish community is facing rising antisemitism. Following days of advocacy and public pressure, the motion was removed from Monday's council agenda before it could be debated or voted on. Jewish community organizations welcomed the withdrawal but warned that a similar motion is expected to return to City Council later this summer. -- 🗞️ JOIN THE TORONTO SCOOP, TORONTO'S FASTEST GROWING WHATSAPP GROUP & STATUS: https://chat.whatsapp.com/IZ1SDTXA9aY5z0w4lT0vyY

CIA Director Reportedly Questions Iran's Intentions Under New U.S.-Iran Deal A new Axios report says CIA Director John Ratcliffe has warned President Trump that U.S. intelligence raises serious doubts about whether Iran intends to make the nuclear concessions the United States is seeking. According to the report, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth also expressed concerns during internal discussions, arguing that Iranian officials may be telling mediators one thing while discussing something very different behind closed doors. The 60-day memorandum of understanding signed Sunday extends the ceasefire and opens negotiations on Iran's nuclear program, sanctions relief, frozen Iranian assets, and the future of the Strait of Hormuz. Supporters of the deal say Iran will receive major benefits only if it makes meaningful concessions. Critics counter that Iran could gain economic and strategic advantages while delaying or avoiding the nuclear steps demanded by Washington. A key test may come within the next few weeks, as U.S. officials say they expect to know soon whether Iran is negotiating in good faith. -- 🗞️ JOIN THE TORONTO SCOOP, TORONTO'S FASTEST GROWING WHATSAPP GROUP & STATUS: https://chat.whatsapp.com/IZ1SDTXA9aY5z0w4lT0vyY

🇨🇦 CRA Offers Canadians a Second Chance to Correct Tax Mistakes If you've discovered unreported income, GST/HST errors, undeclared foreign assets, or other mistakes on past tax returns, the CRA is encouraging taxpayers to come forward voluntarily before the agency contacts them. Under the CRA's updated Voluntary Disclosures Program (VDP), eligible taxpayers may receive significant relief, including: ✅ Up to 100% relief from penalties ✅ Partial relief from interest charges ✅ No referral for criminal prosecution The revised rules, which took effect on October 1, 2025, simplify the disclosure process and distinguish between taxpayers who come forward on their own and those who have already been contacted by the CRA. To qualify, the disclosure must generally be voluntary, complete, and involve information that is at least one year overdue. For Canadians who know they have made mistakes on previous tax filings, the program may provide an opportunity to correct the issue before facing more serious consequences. -- 🗞️ JOIN THE TORONTO SCOOP, TORONTO'S FASTEST GROWING WHATSAPP GROUP & STATUS: https://chat.whatsapp.com/IZ1SDTXA9aY5z0w4lT0vyY

Police: "Gun-for-Hire" Networks Behind Some Attacks on Jewish Institutions Toronto Police say a number of recent shootings across the GTA — including incidents targeting synagogues, Jewish schools, and the U.S. Consulate — appear to be linked to "gun-for-hire" schemes in which young people are recruited through encrypted messaging apps and paid to carry out attacks. Investigators say two handguns seized during last week's raids have already been linked through ballistic testing to at least 28 separate shooting incidents across the GTA. Police allege that multiple shooters shared the same firearms. Chief Myron Demkiw said that in many cases the hired gunmen are required to film the shootings in order to receive payment, while those directing the attacks often remain hidden behind encrypted communications. Police say they are still trying to determine who is financing and coordinating the attacks, but noted that some of those responsible appear intent on creating fear within communities, including the Jewish community. The investigation remains ongoing, with additional arrests and charges possible. -- 🗞️ JOIN THE TORONTO SCOOP, TORONTO'S FASTEST GROWING WHATSAPP GROUP & STATUS: https://chat.whatsapp.com/IZ1SDTXA9aY5z0w4lT0vyY

FULL TEXT OF U.S.-IRAN MOU RELEASED Axios has published the full text of the U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding that would form the basis of a final agreement between Washington and Tehran. Among the most significant provisions: ▪️ Immediate end to hostilities between the U.S. and Iran and a commitment not to initiate future military action against one another. ▪️ Iran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz and facilitate commercial shipping. ▪️ The U.S. would lift its naval blockade and begin removing military forces from the vicinity of Iran. ▪️ A 60-day window would be established for negotiations on a final nuclear agreement. ▪️ During those negotiations, the U.S. would waive sanctions and permit Iranian oil exports. ▪️ The agreement envisions the eventual termination of U.S., UN, and other international sanctions on Iran. ▪️ The U.S. and regional partners would commit to developing a reconstruction and economic development package for Iran worth at least $300 billion. ▪️ Frozen Iranian assets would be released and made available for use. ▪️ Iran would reaffirm that it will not develop nuclear weapons, while negotiations continue regarding its stockpile of enriched uranium and future enrichment activities. The proposed agreement is already generating intense debate, with supporters viewing it as a path to regional stability and critics arguing that it offers Iran sweeping economic concessions before permanent nuclear restrictions have been finalized. -- 🗞️ JOIN THE TORONTO SCOOP, TORONTO'S FASTEST GROWING WHATSAPP GROUP & STATUS: https://chat.whatsapp.com/IZ1SDTXA9aY5z0w4lT0vyY

BREAKING: Second Suspect Arrested in U.S. Consulate Shooting Toronto Police have arrested 19-year-old Zara Jabbi, the second suspect wanted in connection with the March 10 shooting at the U.S. Consulate in downtown Toronto. Police allege that two suspects exited a stolen vehicle outside the consulate and opened fire on the building, damaging windows and doors before fleeing the scene. No injuries were reported. Jabbi faces multiple charges, including: • Theft of a motor vehicle • Possession of property obtained by crime • Discharging a restricted or prohibited firearm at a place • Attack on premises of internationally protected persons The arrest follows last week's arrest of 18-year-old Sheldon Tracy-Stewart and a series of search warrants that led to the seizure of firearms allegedly linked to 27 shootings across the GTA. Earlier this week, Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw said investigators believe the consulate shooting was part of a growing "criminals-for-hire" trend, in which young people are recruited through encrypted messaging apps to carry out attacks and film them for payment. Police have also indicated that similar tactics have been used in shootings targeting synagogues, Jewish schools, and other locations across the GTA.

Wow. Major Toronto MKY Moment A meshulach from Eretz Yisroel was struck by a car while in Toronto. Far from home, with no family nearby and unable to speak English, he suddenly found himself alone in a hospital with a broken shoulder. Hatzoloh responded promptly and ensured that he received the medical attention he needed. Hatzoloh volunteers remained with him until he was admitted to the hospital and comfortable. Once he was admitted, Bikur Cholim Toronto put out a request for volunteers to spend time with him so that he wouldn't have to face the ordeal by himself. The response was remarkable. At least eight people volunteered to help. One selfless volunteer remained by his bedside from 10:00 p.m. last night until 7:30 a.m. this morning, simply to make sure a fellow Yid they had never met would not be alone. No fanfare. No recognition. Just Yidden caring for another Yid. Mi K'amcha Yisroel! P.S. Other than a broken shoulder, he is B"H in good health and good spirits. -- 🗞️ JOIN THE TORONTO SCOOP, TORONTO'S FASTEST GROWING WHATSAPP GROUP & STATUS: https://chat.whatsapp.com/IZ1SDTXA9aY5z0w4lT0vyY

1:15 AM❤️ At an End-of-Year Kumzitz for a Very Special Night Seder Chaburah ❤️ The Toronto Scoop: Rabbosai, I'm so grateful to be able to share some of the inspiration I've been getting from these boys ever since I started coming to Shoavei Mayim for night seder. I see boys who don't attend standard yeshivos—boys who could be spending their evenings anywhere—coming completely of their own volition to learn Torah. Curious, I struck up a conversation with one of them and asked how he and his friends ended up in the chaburah. "One night we were hanging out at Slice n Bites when we met Reb Shmuli Heller," he told me. "He struck up a conversation and offered to pay each of us $20 to come learn with him at Shoavei Mayim for 20 minutes." "We huddled for a minute and then told him we'd come—but he could keep the $20." "It was around Purim time, and he spoke about finding Hashem even in the darkness. We loved it. When the 20 minutes were up, we told him we wanted more." Reb Shmuli then arranged for Reb Michael Breiner, Reb Moshe Hofstedter, and Reb Tzady Zlotnick to give us chaburos twice a week—and we've kept coming because we love it." What many of us take for granted is, in fact, something these Yiddishe neshamos are thirsting for. "לא רעב ללחם ולא צמא למים כי אם לשמוע את דבר השם" May these boys continue to inspire us with their growth, and may Hashem bentch Reb Shmuli and his chevra with כל מילי דמיטב for their remarkable work. Mi K'Amcha Yisroel. ❤️

🇱🇧 UPDATE: U.S. Claims Israel-Hezbollah Ceasefire Back On Axios reports that U.S. officials say Israel and Hezbollah have agreed to a renewed ceasefire in Lebanon following a day of intense fighting that left at least four Israeli soldiers dead. According to U.S. officials, the ceasefire was brokered by the United States and Qatar and took effect Friday afternoon. However, clashes reportedly continued after the designated start time, with Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon and Hezbollah drone launches toward northern Israel. Hezbollah sources told Reuters they consider the ceasefire to be in effect. Israel has not formally confirmed its participation, although a senior U.S. official told Axios that Prime Minister Netanyahu approved the arrangement. The fighting led to the postponement of planned U.S.-Iran talks in Switzerland. Iranian officials say the meeting is expected to be rescheduled in the coming days if conditions permit. Israel is reportedly expected to continue operating against threats within the security zone it currently controls in southern Lebanon. -- 🗞️ JOIN THE TORONTO SCOOP, TORONTO'S FASTEST GROWING WHATSAPP GROUP & STATUS: https://chat.whatsapp.com/IZ1SDTXA9aY5z0w4lT0vyY

BREAKING: U.S. and Iran Launch Direct Negotiations in Switzerland According to Axios, senior U.S. and Iranian officials met Sunday in Switzerland for the first round of direct talks aimed at ending the current conflict and launching 60 days of negotiations over Iran's nuclear program. The discussions reportedly involve Vice President J.D. Vance and other senior U.S. officials, with Qatar and Pakistan helping mediate. Among the issues said to be under discussion are Iran's nuclear program, sanctions relief, access to frozen Iranian funds, and efforts to maintain regional ceasefires. Officials from both sides indicated that talks are continuing, though tensions in Lebanon remain a potential obstacle to a broader agreement. Developing...

🚨 Southern Lebanon Update Despite a ceasefire announced on Friday, heavy fighting has continued in southern Lebanon. • Hezbollah launched a barrage of roughly 50 rockets and projectiles at Israeli forces in the Nabatieh area, killing one Israeli soldier and wounding several others. • Israel responded with extensive airstrikes and military operations across southern Lebanon. Lebanese sources reported significant casualties, and additional strikes have continued over the weekend. • Israel has reiterated that it does not intend to withdraw its forces from southern Lebanon at this time and has expanded the area under its military control, citing ongoing Hezbollah threats. • A major sticking point remains that Hezbollah is demanding a full Israeli withdrawal, while Israel insists Hezbollah must first be removed from the border region. • Reports today indicate continued Israeli operations against Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon, including drone and naval strikes. Bottom line: While a ceasefire technically remains in place, southern Lebanon is still seeing active combat, and the situation remains highly unstable as U.S.-Iran talks continue in Switzerland. -- 🗞️ JOIN THE TORONTO SCOOP, TORONTO'S FASTEST GROWING WHATSAPP GROUP & STATUS: https://chat.whatsapp.com/IZ1SDTXA9aY5z0w4lT0vyY

Regina Tests Public Call to Prayer, Sparking Debate A test broadcast of the Islamic call to prayer over outdoor loudspeakers in downtown Regina (Saskatchewan's capital city) is generating discussion about the limits of religious accommodation in public spaces. While supporters view the initiative as an expression of religious freedom and a reflection of the city's growing Muslim community, others argue that amplified religious broadcasts should not be projected into public areas where residents have no practical ability to opt out. Critics stress that the issue is not the right of any faith community to worship, which they say should be fully protected, but rather whether religious messages should be broadcast beyond the walls of houses of worship. They contend that the same standard should apply equally to mosques, churches, synagogues, and other religious institutions. The test comes amid broader conversations across Canada about how to balance freedom of religion with maintaining public spaces that are shared by people of diverse faiths and backgrounds. -- 🗞️ JOIN THE TORONTO SCOOP, TORONTO'S FASTEST GROWING WHATSAPP GROUP & STATUS: https://wa.link/9mlx3u
