LAX People Mover Debacle: Never-Ending Delays, Terrible Mismanagement, and Now Electrical Blasts Damage the Tracks! The never-ending LAX People Mover debacle has taken another troubling turn. Reports indicate that three electrical blast incidents damaged sections of the elevated tracks and power rail, creating yet another setback for the long-delayed project. Originally scheduled to open in 2023, the $3.3 billion project has suffered years of delays, technical problems, contractor disputes and serious questions about mismanagement and oversight. The latest scheduled opening is January 2027, but additional setbacks have raised concerns that passengers may not see the trains operating until well into 2027, or possibly even 2028, although no such postponement has been officially announced. What was supposed to revolutionize transportation at LAX has instead become a symbol of never-ending delays, ballooning costs and taxpayer frustration.
