Hollywood Hills Home Burglarized In Broad Daylight — Entire Break-In Takes Just 4 Minutes And 30 Seconds A Hollywood Hills homeowner is sharing disturbing surveillance footage after burglars broke into his home on October 24, in broad daylight, stealing belongings in a matter of minutes. According to the homeowner, the family had left the house for just a couple of hours when the burglary occurred. Security cameras captured suspicious activity beginning around 12:08 p.m., with approximately 4 minutes and 30 seconds of activity recorded on the property. Surveillance footage shows a white Kia Sportage, believed to be a 2020–2024 model, driving away from the area.

Volunteer organizations such as Magen Am and Hatzalah play important roles in helping protect and serve the Jewish community, raising questions about how the city can better support their efforts while improving police and fire department response. Century-Old Cement Factory On La Brea To Be Replaced By Massive 34-Story Luxury Apartment Tower A major transformation is coming to the 1000 North block of La Brea Avenue, near Santa Monica Boulevard, where a cement factory that operated for more than 100 years has been dismantled to make way for a massive 34-story luxury apartment building. The proposed $400 million development would become the tallest building in West Hollywood, featuring 514 apartments, including 128 affordable housing units. The project would also include street-level restaurants and shops, rooftop gardens, a swimming pool and parking for hundreds of vehicles. The former Cemex concrete plant, which opened in the 1920s, shut down in 2024. Its industrial structures have since been removed. The project still requires final City Council approval, with construction potentially beginning in late 2027 or early 2028. LA SCOOP'S TAKE ON THE MATTER: I personally pass this location every single day, and for years I have considered this cement factory a major eyesore on La Brea Avenue. Seeing this old industrial property finally being transformed into something attractive and modern is very welcome news. And who knows? Perhaps some of these new apartments will become homes for frum families and individuals looking to live right in the heart of our frum neighborhoods, within walking distance of shuls, kosher stores and other community amenities. Instead of looking at an ugly cement factory every day, we may soon have a beautiful residential building that improves the appearance of the entire area while also providing much-needed housing. I, for one, am looking forward to this change!

Hatzolah Of Los Angeles Gains City Support, But Critical Agreement Remains Unresolved For years, Hatzolah of Los Angeles volunteers have responded to medical emergencies at a moment’s notice, leaving their homes and families to help save lives. Hatzolah now faces a challenge involving the City of Los Angeles and LAFD over its ability to continue dispatching volunteers and responding to emergencies. The issue centers on the City’s Section 201 rights governing emergency medical services, which Hatzolah maintains its operations do not violate. Hatzolah has received encouraging support from Mayor Karen Bass and her office, City Council members, and members of the LA County Board of Supervisors. However, a final agreement remains unresolved. Hatzolah is asking the Mayor’s Office to bring together the City Attorney, LAFD leadership, and Hatzolah representatives to finalize a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) protecting its ability to respond alongside LAFD while respecting the City’s rights. Hatzolah is not seeking to replace or interfere with LAFD. Its mission remains saving lives. With city leaders expressing support, the next critical step is turning that support into a formal agreement allowing Hatzolah to continue serving the community. LA Mayor's Race Now Tied As Karen Bass Erases Nithya Raman's 11-Point Lead With just days remaining before the November 3 election, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and City Councilwoman Nithya Raman are now tied at 40% each, according to a new UC Berkeley/L.A. Times poll released Wednesday, October 28. The results mark a dramatic turnaround from September, when Raman led Bass 39% to 28%, an 11-point advantage. Much of Bass' comeback appears to come from voters who supported Spencer Pratt in the June primary. Bass has increased her support among those voters from 22% to 41%. Despite the comeback, Bass continues to face significant dissatisfaction among voters, with 65% viewing her unfavorably. The poll surveyed 2,197 likely Los Angeles voters between October 19 and 25, with a margin of error of approximately 3 percentage points. Footage Obtained of Late-Night Crash at La Brea and Beverly Shows Driver Running Red Light LA Scoop has obtained footage of the traffic accident that occurred late Tuesday night at the intersection of La Brea Avenue and Beverly Boulevard. The footage clearly shows a vehicle traveling southbound on La Brea proceeding straight through a red light. It's unclear whether the driver was distracted, possibly texting, or simply assumed it was safe to cross because there appeared to be little traffic. One can not be too careful as one moment of distraction can wreck someone's life forever.

Baruch Hashem, the timing worked out beautifully for the frum community, as many people were already in shul for Mincha, allowing Shabbos afternoon get togethers to be completed without interference from the rain. Rain continued at intervals through Shabbos and into Motzaei Shabbos bringing measurable rainfall across Los Angeles. According to the National Weather Service, preliminary rainfall totals as of 1:02 a.m. Sunday included: Downtown Los Angeles: 0.54 inches Beverly Hills: 0.27 inches Bel Air: 0.46 inches Culver City: 0.43 inches Hollywood Reservoir: 1.53 inches Some areas received considerably more rain than others, with the Hollywood Hills seeing particularly significant rainfall. By this morning, Sunday, November 1, the storm has already moved out with clouds giving away to beautiful sunshine with temperatures reaching approximately 71 degrees by this afternoon. A welcome rainfall for Los Angeles, and Baruch Hashem, one that arrived at a convenient time for our community over Shabbos.

Clocks Turned Back Overnight — Los Angeles Enjoys An Extra Hour Of Sleep! Los Angeles residents got a little bonus overnight as Daylight Saving Time officially came to an end early Sunday morning, November 1. At exactly 2:00 a.m., clocks were turned back one hour to 1:00 a.m. That means after 1:59 a.m., instead of moving forward to 2:00 a.m., the clock went right back to 1:00 a.m. again! For those who were sleeping, it was certainly nice to enjoy an extra hour of sleep, especially after a long week! We are now officially back on Pacific Standard Time, meaning sunrise will be earlier in the morning, however, it will also start getting dark earlier in the afternoon. Dramatic Video Surfaces Of Car Exploding On 215 Freeway In Riverside — Two CHP Officers Engulfed In Flames Shocking video has surfaced showing the terrifying moment a burning vehicle suddenly exploded on the 215 Freeway in Riverside County last Sunday, October 25, sending a massive fireball directly toward two California Highway Patrol officers. The incident happened shortly after 3:15 p.m. on the northbound 215 Freeway near the 60 Freeway interchange in Moreno Valley. According to CHP, a disabled 2007 Toyota Camry had been pushed onto the shoulder when it caught fire. As officers approached the vehicle to make sure nobody was trapped inside, it suddenly exploded. The dramatic footage shows both officers completely engulfed in flames before quickly running away from the burning vehicle. Thankfully, both officers survived, suffering minor to moderate burn injuries. They were transported to a hospital and are expected to make a full recovery. Authorities also confirmed that the driver of the Toyota was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The newly surfaced footage is an incredible reminder of just how quickly an ordinary roadside emergency can turn into a life-threatening situation.

Los Angeles Jewish Community Faces Critical Election As Serious Concerns Grow Over Israel, Antisemitism And Public Safety Tomorrow, Tuesday, November 3, Los Angeles voters will decide between Mayor Karen Bass and City Councilwoman Nithya Raman in an election with major consequences for public safety, policing and homelessness. At the Jewish community mayoral forum at the Skirball Cultural Center, Raman defended her libelous characterization of Israel's military actions in Gaza, while Bass rejected that characterization. On October 7, 2023, Hamas terrorists murdered approximately 1,200 people and took 251 hostages. Hamas leaders subsequently declared their intention to repeat attacks like October 7 again and again. Israel faces enemies openly committed to its destruction, making its security an existential concern. Many Jewish residents regard Raman's accusations as a terrible blood libel against Israel and fear that such rhetoric fuels antisemitism and hostility toward Jewish people right here in Los Angeles. Raman's Public Safety Voting Record Raises Serious Questions Raman publicly supported the "Defund the Police" movement in 2020 and called for a substantially smaller LAPD. In January 2026, she voted against a proposal to hire 170 additional police officers. She also opposed the 2023 police pay agreement. Governor Newsom Proposes $1 Billion Film Tax Credit Expansion To Bring Hollywood Productions And Jobs Back To Los Angeles LOS ANGELES — California Governor Gavin Newsom announced Monday a major proposal to increase the state's annual film and television tax credit program from $750 million to at least $1 billion, in an effort to bring more Hollywood productions and thousands of jobs back to California. The proposal comes as Los Angeles continues to struggle with declining film and television production, with studios increasingly choosing other states and countries where filming is less expensive. Under the proposed expansion, California would offer additional incentives to filmmakers, including $100 million annually for independent productions, tax credits covering certain actors' and directors' salaries, and additional benefits for studios committing to multiple productions in California. Newsom also wants to extend the program through 2040, providing long-term incentives for Hollywood studios to keep their productions in Los Angeles. California ISIS Supporter Pleads Guilty After Plotting Attack on Jewish Shul Attendee He Believed Was an Israeli Soldier A 34-year-old California man has pleaded guilty to attempting to provide material support to ISIS after federal investigators uncovered a disturbing plot involving weapons, explosives, and a potential attack against a Jewish man attending a Shul. Ammaad Akhtar, of Stockton, California, admitted to attempting to supply ISIS with weapons and money. During an undercover FBI operation, he handed over two loaded firearms, six ammunition magazines, and $400 in cash to an agent he believed represented the terrorist organization. Even more disturbing, investigators revealed that Akhtar had followed a Jewish man he regularly observed attending Shul on Shabbos, believing the individual was an Israeli Defense Forces soldier. According to court documents, Akhtar discussed locating the man's home and potentially murdering him in a way that would appear to be a random crime. Authorities also discovered that Akhtar had requested instructions for constructing a homemade bomb intended for an attack at a crowded public event. Thankfully, the FBI's undercover operation prevented the weapons from reaching ISIS and led to Akhtar's arrest in June 2025. Akhtar pleaded guilty on Friday, October 30, and now faces up to 20 years in federal prison. His sentencing is scheduled for February 26, 2027. The frightening case serves as another reminder of the very real security threats facing Jewish communities across America and the importance of remaining vigilant around our shuls and community institutions.

Los Angeles Man Fined $5,000 for Illegally Crossing U.S. Border Despite Being an American Citizen A Los Angeles man learned the hard way that even American citizens cannot enter the United States wherever they please. According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the man was stopped by Border Patrol agents on October 15 after crossing into California from Mexico near Dulzura, in San Diego County, without going through an official border crossing. The man told agents he was an American citizen but had no identification to prove it. After checking his records, authorities confirmed that he was indeed a U.S. citizen. However, investigators also discovered something else: the Los Angeles Police Department had an outstanding felony warrant for his arrest in connection with an alleged domestic violence offense. The man was issued a $5,000 civil penalty for illegally entering the country outside an authorized port of entry and was subsequently turned over to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office for booking on the warrant. Federal authorities emphasized that American citizenship does not exempt anyone from following border entry requirements. The incident was announced Monday, November 2. Authorities have not released the man's identity.

Three Aircraft Spotted Flying In Tight Formation Over Hancock Park Residents in Hancock Park were treated to an unusual sight Thursday evening as three aircraft flew overhead in a tight triangular formation, producing a loud roaring sound. The aircraft were first spotted heading west at approximately 5:04 PM. Just three minutes later, around 5:07 PM, the same three planes returned, this time heading northeast, maintaining their tight formation. The aircraft appeared to be vintage military-style propeller planes, although their exact models have not been confirmed.
