New York City officials announced that approximately 1,200 sidewalk sheds have been removed across the five boroughs since January, representing a reduction of more than 15%. Mayor Zohran Mamdani also unveiled new sidewalk shed designs intended to improve lighting, pedestrian access and storefront visibility. The city expects to finalize rules allowing the new designs to be used citywide before the end of the year.
