LA METRO BREAKS GROUND ON $4 BILLION SAN FERNANDO VALLEY LIGHT RAIL PROJECT Los Angeles Metro officially broke ground Monday morning in Van Nuys on a massive $4 billion light rail project that will bring passenger trains back to Van Nuys Boulevard for the first time in more than 70 years. The 6.7-mile rail line will feature 11 stations, connecting Van Nuys, Panorama City, Arleta and Pacoima, with connections to the Metro G Line, Metrolink and Amtrak. Construction will take place primarily along the center of Van Nuys Boulevard, with motorists facing years of lane reductions, traffic disruptions and some parking removal. The project is expected to be completed in late 2031, with Metro currently targeting a 2032 opening, nearly a decade after preliminary construction began in 2022.
