NEW YORK (VINnews) — New York City public schools will reopen for in-person instruction Tuesday after a traditional snow day Monday, Mayor Zohran Mamdani said.
Speaking at a Monday afternoon briefing, Mamdani said the worst of the winter storm had passed, allowing students to safely return to classrooms.
“I hope our students enjoy their snow day today and stay warm and safe, but I do have some tough news to share: School will be in person tomorrow,” he said, joking that students could “pelt me with snowballs” when they see him.
State law requires 180 instructional days each school year. Mamdani said the city received a waiver from the state education commissioner permitting Monday to count as a traditional snow day.
