MAJOR SECURITY BOOST: Britain Commits 250 Million Pounds To Protect Jewish Communities
Britain will spend more than 250 million pounds over the next three years to strengthen security for Jewish communities following a series of recent antisemitic attacks.
The funding will provide more than 500 additional police officers across England and Wales, boosting security in Jewish neighborhoods and around schools, synagogues, and community centers.
The announcement follows a string of attacks on Jewish-linked sites in London, including the torching of four Jewish community ambulances in March. In April, Britain raised its national terrorism threat level from “substantial” to “severe” in response to an antisemitic stabbing attack in north London.
The new package comes in addition to 25 million pounds announced following the April stabbings. It includes around 300 additional officers in London, approximately 80 in Greater Manchester, and 43 million pounds for police forces serving other areas with significant Jewish populations.
“The rise in antisemitism we have seen in recent years is a test of our values as a country and tackling it has been central to my leadership from day one,” Prime Minister Keir Starmer said.
London’s Metropolitan Police is set to receive 86 million pounds from the new funding, while 59 million pounds has been earmarked for counterterrorism policing. Officers will increase patrols during periods of heightened vulnerability to provide visible reassurance and help deter hate crimes and antisemitic incidents.
