TOP COUNSEL: Trump Promotes Jewish Attorney Will Scharf To Powerful White House Legal Post
President Donald Trump announced Monday that he is promoting Jewish attorney Will Scharf, a close White House ally who has become a familiar presence alongside the president, to one of the administration’s most influential legal positions.
Scharf, currently serving as White House Staff Secretary, will become White House Counsel and Assistant to the President effective September 1.
He will replace David Warrington, who is departing the administration to return to the private sector.
Trump announced the appointment on Truth Social, praising Scharf’s legal abilities and noting that he previously represented Trump before the U.S. Supreme Court.
“Will is tough, strong, and smart! He also loves our Country and respects the LAW,” Trump wrote, adding that Scharf “will do an excellent job” in his new position.
Scharf, 40, has served as White House Staff Secretary since Trump returned to office in January 2025.
In that position, Scharf has been responsible for managing and coordinating documents and other materials reaching the president, including executive orders, memoranda, speeches, briefings and legislative proposals.
Scharf has also become an increasingly recognizable figure in recent months through his frequent appearances alongside Trump during executive order signings in the Oval Office.
During many of those appearances, Scharf has stood beside the president and explained the substance and purpose of executive actions to reporters and cameras.
His promotion places him in a significantly more powerful legal position inside the administration. As White House Counsel, Scharf will serve as a central legal adviser to the presidency and play a major role in navigating legal issues confronting the White House.
Scharf has been a longtime Trump ally and previously served on the president’s legal team, including representing Trump in litigation before the Supreme Court.
His elevation to White House Counsel further solidifies his position as one of Trump’s most prominent legal advisers inside the administration.
