Einav Zangauker, the mother of released hostage Matan Zangauker and one of the leading figures in the campaign for the return of the hostages, accused Democrats party chairman Yair Golan on Monday of breaking a promise to reserve her a spot on the party’s electoral list.

“I upheld my commitments and did not consider other options, such as participating in the primaries,” Zangauker wrote. “I fulfilled my side of the agreement, and unfortunately Golan decided otherwise.”

Golan responded: “Einav, you are dear to my heart. I greatly appreciate and value you — the courage, determination and strength with which you led a struggle that saved lives. I know my decision disappointed you, and I am deeply sorry for that. It was my decision, and I take full responsibility for it and for the pain it caused you.”

Golan said he decided not to use his authority to reserve a spot on the list, out of respect for the decision of the Democrats’ 113,000 members and confidence in the slate they selected. He added that other candidates who had been considered for reserved spots received the same message from him: there would be no reserved slots.
